This blog is aimed at English-speaking learners of Irish. My earlier blog stopped to be recognized by browsers, so I am moving all my stuff here. Seo seanbhlag do lucht na Gaeilge a d'athbheoigh mé, toisc nach raibh an blag eile a bhí agam inléite a thuilleadh - ní raibh na brobhsálaithe in ann an friothálaí a aithint.

Political convictions = géarbharúlacha polaitiúla
People usually use all kinds of clumsy neologisms for conviction in the sense of political or ethical conviction, being convinced in your conscience of something. There is no reason whatsoever to use any other word than géarbharúil. For "convinced", please use géarbharúlach. Being convinced in our consciences that Home Rule would be deeply harmful to Ireland... then translates as Ó tá muid barúlach agus géarbharúlach go ndéanfadh an Rialtas Dúchais dochar as cuimse d'Éirinn...
